Literacy
Important Foundation For Life

Focus includes early identification, literacy intervention and identification of older students who have literacy issues that interfere with academic achievement.
Literacy is defined broadly as the ability to read and write. Spoken language is the foundation upon which one expands their reading and writing skills. Spoken language and written language are intertwined and interdependent, growing and strengthening language and literacy from birth through adulthood. It is not uncommon for students with challenges related to reading and writing to have spoken language issues. Instruction in spoken language can result in growth in written language, and instruction in written language can result in growth in spoken language.

Intervention is key to ensure they are able to learn and communicate to the best of their ability while in educational, family, community and employment settings. Remember that in early grades you learn to read and write but soon enough you read to learn and write to demonstrate what you have learned.
